Weddings in Maui are always beautiful but this soft, romantic, modern tropical wedding totally has our hearts! Not only is the gorgeous decor, including a lush, driftwood arch dripping in Protea, beyond stunning, the story of how this couple met is going to warm your heart and make you believe that fairy tales really do come true! They met on Instagram, the groom has battled brain cancer and they’re now expecting their first child!
The bride’s vision was blush romance with a modern tropical feel, while at the same time providing a relaxed vibe for their guests to enjoy. We could go on and on about this wedding but we thought it would be best to let the bride tell you in her own words how she and her handsome groom met and decided on Maui as their destination wedding location. Get ready for all the feels!!
From the bride:
I can remember the exact moment I knew my future would never be the same. Of course we meet people throughout our lives that change everything, but I didn’t see this one coming, not even in the slightest. They always say that life is what happens when you are busy making other plans. Caught up in work, college, and my daily routine, the moment he messaged me I stopped dead in my tracks. He brought me back to reality and for the first time in years, I was living in the moment and not for the future. I met Jacob on Instagram; or rather we found each other out of millions of people posting pictures every single day. It’s almost as if it were fate waking up that morning. As I got ready for the busy day that lay ahead, a message appeared on my phone (who knew Instagram even had a messaging feature). Should I respond? Why not I told myself. What’s the most that could happen? So I did and I suppose the rest is history. We began messaging each other almost every single day and within a few weeks, texting. The timing was always difficult. Jacob lived in Melbourne, which is 16-hours ahead of Vermont. As I began each morning with a coffee and shower he would be going to bed and vice-versa. Texting eventually led to calling, Facetiming and soon thereafter I couldn’t get enough of the man who lived on the other side of the world. Thus we devised a plan…we would meet in the middle. We would meet in Hawaii; perhaps one of the most romantic locations in this world. Hawaii was everything I thought it would be and more. I was finally with my best friend and for the first time in months, I could reach over, grab his hand, and never let go. Only two weeks later I made the ultimate plunge. I quit my well-paying job, sold my brand new car, offloaded my belongings and bought a one-way ticket to Melbourne, Australia. The rest has been a fairytale.
Choosing Maui as our wedding destination was the easiest decision we ever made. Hawaii has held a special place in our hearts since day one and we knew we wanted to share this experience with our family and friends. Hawaii is also the perfect halfway point between Australia and the US in terms of travel, which meant all sides of the family could attend our destination wedding in Maui.
